# Automations

> Build and test follow-up workflows for your funnels

Automations connects funnel events to messages, delays, and follow-up actions. You need automation-management permission and an active workspace and brand.

## Create and activate a workflow

  <Step title="Choose a template">
    Open **Build > Automations > New** and choose an unlocked template.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add sequence copy when required">
    If prompted, use **Select a nurture** to choose completed Email and SMS nurtures from [Write > Nurture](/modules/write/nurture). Select **Create automation**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Configure the workflow">
    Select nodes on the canvas to configure triggers, messages, delays, and conditions. Changes save automatically; check the **Saved** indicator.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Attach and test a funnel">
    Use **Funnels** to attach the funnels that should trigger the workflow. Select a trigger and use **Test Flow** to send a test run to your account email.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Activate">
    Select **Activate** when ready. Activation requires a trigger connected to an action. Use **Pause** to stop the automation.
  </Step>

Call Funnel and Lead Gen Funnel templates need completed Email and SMS nurtures for the current project and offer. Quiz, Webinar, and Event templates include starter copy. SLO Funnel and document upload are unavailable.

Detaching a funnel cancels its in-flight runs.
